Good News for iMac Users

Good news peeps

Ive compiled Bruce Lee and Quantasm for the iMac. I just have to protect the media (as this is automatically done for me in windows) bit more work to be done for the Mac.

Oh also seems that I have a problem switching between a window and fullscreen mode. When I get a bit of time I’ll finish them off -sooner rather than later !

Im pleased to announce that my lovely wife has just had her 12 week scan, im going to be a dad for the second time !

No problems, in fact he/she is actually 13 weeks, which gives us a due date of the 5th January 2011. Lets hope its later than that- I would have hated a birthday around Xmas and New Year, joint xmas birthday presents and all that :S

just arrived in rockford illinois after 3 days in new york.
we went to the top of the “rock” and i really thought i wason the set of bio shock, it just needed a little sister to run around to make it complete

new york was a really nice place to visit but its very expensive but then expected it to be really as london is the same

my son got to see a bloke in an iron man suit so he was happy too. the toys r us in times square have a captive market

its raining here at the moment and its not going to be a pleasent day unfortunatly. plently of things to go andsee and do tho

Ok so this a gratuitous plea to help a friend get onto a charity calendar….

This year they recreated a stylish pinup calendar of girls of the 1940’s and 50’s using a mixture of professional and amateur models, with all services being given for free and all proceeds going straight to Help For Heroes

Because of its the success they will be producing another one for 2011.

This is where I need your help. There is a shortlist of 26 girls with the top 12 (obviously) getting on the calendar.

Please visit a friends page and vote for her to be included in next years calendar – yes thats her on the left !

New shader for MMF2

I’ve dipped a toe into pixel shaders after looking at Looki’s lens shader and modified it to work on an objects surface rather than on the background beneath the object. Both Looki’s and Ovine’s version have their own advantages and are useful for certain situations:

Ovine Lens shader

Uses an image (stored in MMF) for the lens distortion effect (can not be modified at runtime)
Applies the lens effect only to the contents of the object (this could be an MMF object, Frame or Layer) so allows several independant lens effects to be applied

Looki Lens shader

Uses the contents of the object for the lens distortion and applies the effect to everything in the background underneath. Therefore the lens can be changed at runtime
Everything beneath it will have the distortion applied, everything above it will not

Waiting for graphics can be very boring So in the meantime Smila has suggested we do Scarabaeus.

Does mean I can dip my toe into 3D again. Although this was going to be a quick remake it has meant I have had to learn to use a 3rd party graphics solution. I’ve wanted to use Irrlicht since CHOLO days but havent got around to it. Surprisingly im very underwhelmed by it but it’ll do. Does mean using shaders as we are going for that spooky atmosphere……….

we morn the passing of rocky (the fish). it was a short life (2 weeks) filled with swimming in circles and eating, ok so not much of a life but that comes from not being high in the food chain
