Finally, the MMF2 & TGF2 SWF File Exporter that will allow you to create applications compatible with Adobe® Flash® Player is available !

Currently there is no demo version for this runtime, you can get it in our online store only (price = $69, 59€, or £49). It is a download only option (60 Mb), and an Internet connection is required to register it. Also Java is required to build SWF files (if it’s not installed, or if you have an old version, the installer will ask you if you want to install it).

We’ll probably create a demo version that shows the Flash features without build ability so that you can see if your applications can be built as SWF file, but in the meantime, here is a “features & limitations” list :

Features

- New build type : “SWF File for Adobe Flash Player”
- Sounds are automatically compressed to MP3
- Options to include a preloader :

  • TGF2 -> fixed image + circle progress bar
  • MMF2 -> customizable image + customizable circle progress bar
  • MMF2 Developer -> either customizable image + customizable circle progress bar, or other MMF (simple) application

- Options to include MochiAds in your SWF file at start or end of the application, or between frames
- New Flash Player object, similar to the Vitalize! Plugin object, that allows you to send Javascript commands, open an url, retrieve html parameters, etc
- New FLV object that allows you to play FLV files in a SWF application.

Limitations and differences with EXE apps

- SWF apps run in a sandbox, they have no access to the system, they cannot load or save file.
- Some properties are disabled:

  • you can’t change the style of the window and applications have no menu
  • you can’t switch to full screen and the “resize display to fill window size” option is disabled
  • the “machine independent speed” option is disabled
  • frames have no transitions and objects have only one type of transition (Fade)
  • half the runtime properties of frames are disabled, as they have no use in the Flash player
  • only one Ink Effect for objects, Semi-transparency

- Events:

  • MIDI musics are not supported by the Flash player
  • You cannot play sample files (only internal samples)
  • You cannot save or load the frame position
  • You cannot clear the screen
  • You cannot change the frame rate at runtime (but you can change it in the properties)

- Right mouse clicks can’t be intercepted
- You cannot make holes in the background collision mask
- String objects are clipped vertically
- Objects out of the frame area may be visible

Oooooo maybe a review of Armalyte ? – hope hes kind.

other news is that the iPhone game engine is alomst done – almost ready for level design me thinks. Im sure we’ll have to tweak the engine here and there but its going to be a corker – very very retro !

The original movement system for “the final ninja” is in and Ive started on the level editor. Dont expect too much too soon, Smila is swamped with work which means fun stuff is pushed back……

I have very fond memories of coding CHOLO, think it was my first attempt at a full game in 3D and enjoyed every minute of it.

Armalyte at Retrovision

Head over to Psytronik for pictures and report of the first public viewing of ARMALYTE (the remake) soon to be released April 2010. Ive prepared a special version for reviewers/mags etc, so if you interested get in touch with Kenz on his web site.

Seems the Retrovision is quite a laugh shall consider going next year.

This not only effected the HTTP but also the FTP access that we have. This meant that the outage was nothing todo with our website and more that the IP address of our shared server was not accessible to the outside world.

goDaddy support did not acknowledge (and have not) the fact that it was down and I quote “It works for us” – well it would do its on your network. They sent stock emails asking for screenshots of what our screens look like, “have you forgotten your password – this is how to reset it” etc. Their support is being run by monkeys ………

Surprisingly the error has now cleared and hopefully its back up for good, but this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth as I also use them for my work-work hosting too. Think it might be time for a change. Saying that tho – better the devil you know ?

Its taken over 10 months of work to finish but its been worth the effort.

Smila has done an excellent job at mapping the enemy pattens and his graphics are from what we expect from him. The game retains its retro feel in not only the graphics and sound but also in the control and gameplay.

This should get rid of a few false positives that have been reported. I’ll do the same with CHOLO as there have been some reports of that slowing down on modern machines.

I cant promise it will cure all the problems of course – the non joys of using a high level language is that you cant “fix” broken core problems.

As its almost XMAS I have very little time at the moment. Im going to packup the JSWOL3.1 and send it to the testers at the weekend, hopefully that can find time to test it.

Ive done some work on Cyrstal Kingdom Online in the mean time, so hopefully that’ll see the light of day in the not too distant future.

Armalyte seems to be im limbo. The testers/feedback guys have gone quiet – busy time for everyone at the moment. More news about that when I have it. Oh Ive recompiled to use DX7 so its got more chance of working on “lesser” machines without the worry of the OPENGL falling down or stuttering :)

I havent seen Andy online in ages, think hes busy with a project thats all shhhhhhh secret – cant wait to see that that is. Oh ive turned into a COD6 junkie, multi play is so addictive even if im mega pants at it. Still enjoy it.

Oh did I mention that I actually spoke to SMILA ? – I think ive known him for over 5/6 years and never met or spoke to him, we met up on XBOX live/COD6 and actually spoke. Hes not as broad a Geordie as I thought he was going to be. I put on my posh brummie/walsall accent which threw him I think :) . Cant say we spoke much about current projects – too busy shooting and in my case, being shot. Damm those dual shotgun wielding people !

If I dont post again this side of XMAS, MERRY CHRISTMAS !

I’ve also found a new look for the Ovine logo I like.  Been something I have been playing with for the last couple of months, will unveil it shortly.

JSWOL 3.1 In test

To help me thru the Armalyte Testing (which is going really well BTW) Im resurrecting JSWOL 3.1 !!!

I tried to get AndyH to have a look at it but he seemed less than enthusiastic so Ive taken the reigns back. :)

A lot of the bug fixes and new features are already in there but I’ve recently updated alot of the network code (upto the current version of RAKNET). Ive even put a little bandwidth graph on screen which I’ll keep in game (its helped me to test) its always nice to see a graph on screen :)

* Willy on skates i.e. you cant stop
* Willy Mines (drop mines to spruce up the game)
* User Map editor
* User maps supported (uploaded in game or as a downloaded file)
* In game flags next to servers to help choose a server nearer you.

** lots of bug fixes **

Im still looking at a PC / MAC(intel) release. Dont hold me to a deadline tho !!!! Its done when its done.
