Hey guys, loved the game, always remember Cholo as being one of the ’spooky fun’ games from childhood.

I suffered the ‘missing interface text’ bug as well with Vista + up to date graphics driver (ATI Radeon HD 4800) – but the good news is that it’s perfectly possible to complete the game without the text. (I did!)

The forum seems to have gone, any idea where hints and tips are? I’m not sure I saw everything there was to see in my playthough.

Hi. I downloaded this interesting game sometime back… I enjoyed playing it, though I didn’t get far. It’s been quite some time and after formating my PC I lost it… I decided I’d download it again today. There seems to be a problem though… It’s suffering some severe lag when I’m outside. Mainly when moving or firing. I don’t understand why… My PC is well within the system requirements and even past recommended. Not that hard these days I imagine ! Anyways, I definitely don’t recall it doing this to me before. Thanks, and good job on these games.

I loved the original version of this game!
Was so looking forward to a bit of nostalgia but unable to D/L Cholo; all D/L links redirect to a blue Ovine Download page then nothing happens !!!!

XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (RC), same issue. I would hope drivers would not be the problem as I keep them up to date. Thankfully I’ve completed it once already when I had an NVidia chipset but was feeling like seeing how well I could do again. I’ve yet to find the little house out in the radiation field and would like to see it.

I havent looked at the Cholo code in quite a while but I’d say its still a driver issue.

We arent doing anything especially clever with the text on screen and indeed displaying it in a very standard way.

Has there been a solution to the missing text in the interface? I’m currently running an ATI 4670 card and while the game itself is fine, the text in the hacking interface and status screens is missing. I know previous blame was on the Intel graphics chipset.

It unfortunately happens from time to time but odd if you are finding it’s the only file, it is a false positive. Perhaps it is seeing a combination of features it doesn’t see elsewhere. Tested again on Eset antivirus and it is showing clean.

Norton antivirus is showing that the installer has trojan.dropper (no other downloads on your site do). Definitions 11/09/2009 in NAV 2003 v9.05.15.

If it is going to keep getting false-positives, maybe you could re-pack it with another tool?

i ve played the game 20 years ago with a commodore 64 but now with vista something is missing to achieve the game must leave …

Thanks for the heads up, but it is a false positive. We use a tool that packs the game content into the EXE and this is sometimes picked up as suspicious activity. I’ve never encountered reports directly with Norton or NOD AV.

Hey guys, I came across something this morning and thought you should be aware of it. After running a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware the results showed CHOLO.exe as having an infection.

Files Infected:
D:\downloads\freeware games\CHOLO 1.2.exe (Adware.EShoper) -> No action taken.

This led me to upload the file to two separate file scanning services (Jotti and VirusTotal), both of which also came up with infection alerts. I’m not sure if this is a false positive or not but thought you would want to know. Direct URLS for the scan results are below.

Its most certainly a driver issue. Ive just tried it on my windows7 rig and it even works. I did make a few changes for it to work on vista quite a while ago (when I had a vista laptop)

Just make sure you have the file from this site – I cant guarantee if the file leechers sites have the latest version (but then it was quite a while ago when it was updated)

Hey guys, I was quite keen to play… but I keep getting “memory access violation” everytime I try a new game

I’m running vista and I’ve tried all the compatibility modes in all sorts of combinations… do I need a patch?

Yes, there is a file called pword2.txt that contains the second set of password to unlock robots and like.

Funny, I played it eariler and found the pword2.txt now I forgot to save my game and now I can’t remember which building I got it from.

grrr!!
